The Evolution of the NeoPixel Circuit Board

A single NeoPixel LED couldn’t compare to the brightness of the old light bulbs, so multiple LEDs were required for each of the 100 numbers on the call board. This required a circuit board to be designed that would house enough LEDs to match the original brightness. These NeoPixel circuit boards also needed to fit around the existing bulb sockets. It took several iterations before the optimal NeoPixel board design was found.

Circuit Board Design Prototypes

One of the first prototypes for a circuit board capable of controlling several NeoPixel LEDs at once. Multiple LEDs were required to create the same brightness as the one of the original 120 volt light bulbs.

The final NeoPixel circuit board design has the LEDs in a circle around the hole for the old bulb socket in order to better replicate the efect of the original bulbs.
