Crazy Quilt

Description:

The popularity of Crazy Quilts during the late 19th century is attributed to simultaneous exhibitions of English embroidery and Japanese ceramics. The cracked surfaces of the pottery and the long, smooth satin stitches in the embroidery are combined in this American Crazy Quilt. Also during this era, wider varieties of industrially produced textiles were newly attainable, making these quilts a symbol of the times and the wealth of the women who made them.
