The 1980s Woman
- Title:
- This womenswear look shows a typical preppy look of the 1980s, based on research from films of the decade. It is primarily based on Molly Ringwald’s style in Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles. Despite not being part of the typical preppy crowd, Andie in Pretty in Pink incorporated many preppy pieces into her style. This took preppy out of its exclusivity and into mainstream media, introducing the styles to a wider audience. The 1980’s oxford shirt is pink and of a tuxedo style, with pintucks and lace insets on the yoke. Made by Haberdasher, it has a narrow collar and long sleeves. The cardigan is a 1980’s Ralph Lauren cable sweater. It is pink with a green Fair Isle design around the collar and at the bottom of each sleeve. It has five buttons down the front and two front pockets. The skirt is a Henri Bendel wrap skirt from 1987, donated by Dorothy Schefer. It is navy and white plaid and midi in length.
