Professor Franclemont’s interest in the history of insect classification can be seen in the care he took to include seven early editions of Carl Linnaeus' Systema Naturae in his personal library. First published in 1735, Systema was a a groundbreaking work of biological classification. This English translation shows insects with wings prominently displayed since Linnaeus’s system relied primarily on the number and configuration of their wings
