Eleanor Hillhouse

Biography:

Eleanor Hillhouse joined the Department of Home Economics at Cornell in 1917, the same year that she received her B.S. from Teachers College, Columbia University. Hillhouse served as assistant instructor in home economics in the field of clothing and textiles until 1919, when she was promoted to instructor. In 1918 Hillhouse spent the summer in New York City, studying the work at Peggy Hoyt's Millinery Shop. She viewed this experience as an important opportunity that allowed her to improve and incorporate millinery skills into her courses. She taught for three years at Cornell before resigning in July 1921.
