This piece represents the door of no return. When our Ancestors were enslaved and taken to Goree Island, off the Coast of Senegal, they looked out and knew they would never see their homes again.

This piece represents their dreams of home and their dreams for the generations that would come behind. I honor my Ancestors with this piece because they produced Professor Toni Morrison who used language to put Black voices, particularly Black women's voices, and Black experiences at the center of her work. We need to ensure that Black Women's voices continue to be heard and amplified in literature.
