A Study of an African Symbol

This symbol -Nkotimsefo Mpua- represents the hairstyle of some court attendants (shaved into their heads) and is a symbol of loyalty and readiness to serve. The small quilt was inspired by and created at a workshop focusing on African symbols.

A Study of Two African Symbols

The large comb in the center- Duafe- is the symbol of feminine goodness, love, and care, It is a prized possession of the Akan women, used to comb and plait their hair. The smaller symbols- Nkotimsefo Mpua- represent the hairstyle of some court attendants (shaved into their heads) and is a symbol of loyalty and readiness to serve.
