- Year: 1891
- Collection: Witchcraft
- Catalog No.: BF1505.G94
- Notes: In France, Stanislas de Guaita was one of the most important of the late nineteenth century's small band of writers concerned with the occult. His particular celebrity rested on the fact that he had the most extensive library of books on the occult among that cohort group. At his death, it was catalogued and sold by Dorbon, a bookseller and publisher with extensive credentials in esoteric literature. The catalogue is in the Cornell witchcraft collection, as are a number of Guaita's books themselves. Le Serpent de la Genèse is an occultist manual and one of Stanislas de Guaita's more significant works.

- Book ID: F010
- Author: François Rabelais
- City: Paris
- Publisher: Edwin Tross
- Year: 1869
- Collection: Rare
- Catalog No.: PQ1687.S69 1869
- Notes: A series of 120 images, long believed, erroneously, to be the work of Rabelais himself. They supposedly depict major figures of his day as grotesque allegories. The original edition was published in Lyons in 1565 in a very small press run, and has consequently become a signal rarity. In 1823, the Songes reappeared as volume IX of the Johanneau edition of Rabelais’s works. Edwin Tross reissued these plates in 1869 in a single volume, accompanied by the first critical introduction ever written about them, by Tross himself. The book was printed by Perrin in Lyon, who at that time was acknowledged as a specialist of luxury editions. The Kroch library copy is one of no more than three printed on vellum. It is also sumptuously bound in full red morrocan leather, with elaborate gold tooling, by Lortic, one of the master binders of the second half of the French nineteenth century.

Among his stock characters, such fantastic entities as death, the fool, the devil, and a host of creatures, real and hybrid, from the grotesque bestiary.
