Early Years as a Librarian

In 1957, Giok Po began his career at Cornell University Library as a Southeast Asia specialist under the direction of the curator of the East Asia Collections. His main duties were to arrange and catalog the collection, which at that time mainly focused on Indonesia. During those early years, Linguistics Professor John M. Echols took on much of the responsibility of selecting and purchasing publications for the collection, while Giok Po grew into his new position.
