Great Blue Heron
Ardea herodias
Morning sun glows through the outspread wings of a Great Blue Heron as it wheels in the midair before landing.
During spring and summer, this particular heron was regular visitor to the Houston and Grossman ponds, where numerous people enjoyed watching it lurk immobile in the cattails or slowly stalk the water’s edge to ambush fish and frogs.
